RZA LLC, in cooperation with the National Dispatching Center (NDC), has successfully installed and commissioned a Wide Area Monitoring System (WAMS) at key generation facilities and main substations within Mongolia’s integrated power system.
This project represents a major strategic advancement in enhancing real-time monitoring, operational reliability, and preventive fault management within the national power grid.
The Wide Area Monitoring System (WAMS) is an advanced solution that collects synchronized measurements from multiple points across the power system, enabling real-time, high-precision monitoring of the entire grid state.
The system is based on Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs). A PMU measures voltage and current phasors with microsecond-level accuracy using GPS-based time synchronization, allowing operators to observe the dynamic behavior of the power system in real time.
PMU devices installed at various points continuously measure voltage and current phasor values
All measurements are time-synchronized using GPS signals
Data is transmitted and aggregated at the Phasor Data Concentrator (PDC)
Control center operators monitor and analyze system conditions in real time, including frequency, voltage angle, and system oscillations
